A native of Mali, Bafing Kul sings about the problems and the suffering of his people, his continent and the entire world.
"YELEN" (The Light - La Lumière) is the title of his second album, which can be as a light, a way to help people to control their own destiny and to be free without being indifferent to others’s problems and suffering. Bafing Kul mixes his message of injustice, peace, and love with a soulful blend of traditional Malian rhythms and Reggae music. That’s what he named APPOLO REGGAE. With this album, Bafing Kul wants to share this cultural wealth with all the world.
Born in Bamako (Mali) in a noble family native of Segou, Bafing Kul, writer, composer, performer, chooses to concentrate on militant music derogating, thus, to the established traditions.
Early sensitive to the sufferings of girls employed in the families, he wrote "52" Bamako to denounce domestic slavery.
The singer is actively commited in the fight against female circumcision, a practice that still affects 80% of women in Mali and thousands around the world. This injustice between social and intimate, Bafing Kul denounces it in his album titles YELEN with the songs "Eh! Eh! Eh! Eh! "and" Little Girls From Africa ".
Since his arrival in France in 2002, he worked with the Commission for the Abolition of Sexual Mutilations (CAMS). With the support of this association he recorded his first album « Africa Paris ».
Influences
I called my music "APPOLO REGGAE". I am from Mali, and wanted to sing about problems and suffering of my people and my continent. How and then I realised that those problems and pains were the same in the rest of the world. Then I took from traditional rhythms from my country, as various as they could be, maried those rhythms to Reggae music, and called it "APPOLO REGGAE". I wish to share the cultural richness of Africa with the whole world, claiming for Justice, Human Rights Respect, Equality, Peace and Love, Self-Feeding Suffisance, Health and Education for every people on Earth.
