In 2005, drummer Danny Kaufman and guitarist/singer Alex Benitez began playing music together in Sunnyvale, CA. By mid 2006, Benitez and Kaufman had recruited guitarist Jordan Schwarz and bassist Nicole Escobedo and started a band called Noisy Gum. The original lineup of Noisy Gum lasted long enough for just one performance in 2006.
In early 2007 Schwarz left Noisy Gum to pursue other projects. Prior to Shwarz's departure, Alex and Danny had been working on a side-project called Albert Toast and the Mechanical Snails. When Shwarz quit, Noisy Gum was done, so Alex, Danny, and Nicole pursued Albert Toast and the Mechanical Snails. With a show aproaching quickly on the horizon, and without a lead guitarist, the trio were forced to scramble to find someone to play with them. Through Danny, Alex was able to meet with young guitarist George Adams. After Alex and George jammed a few blues numbers, George agreed to fill in on guitar just a few days before the upcoming show.
That show was a show of many firsts. It was the first time George had played with Danny or Nicole. It was the first time Greorge had even met Nicole. But George was a perfect fit for the band and decided to stay on. Soon after that performance, and after many name change options considered, the band decided to simply shorten their name to the Mechanical Snails.
In April of 2008, The Mechanical Snails were picked up by Microgroove Records and are scheduled to begin recording their first EP in July 2008. The Mechanical Snails reach into ages gone by, the present, as well as the future to bring a unique, yet appealing sound to the music community and beyond.
