Rule The World is an album full of punk with attitude style songs, but with really deft guitar playing that almost, but not quite aligns it with the metal genre. 'Are You Ready' is a good start to the proceedings; it sets the stall out for the band' style. The buzzsaw guitars chop through the rythmn and the raspy vocals of Sammy, mesh well together. The surprise is that the harmony vocals are really sweet and melodic instead of leaden and self conscious, like they could be. 'Uh Oh' is a great 'pop' song, with a real 'sit up and take notice' riff running throughout, whilst following track, 'Flaky Star' backs right off the gas, but doesn't suffer any loss of power for being a slow song. 'Just Let It Go' is a song the verges right on the edge of metal, with it's really heavy riffs, but is rescued by the fact that it's a great song with punky sensibilites and some great sneering vocals from Mr Serious. 'If' has a similar vibe about it, but it is essentially a very commercial sounding song, with bags of attitude and power and none of that heavy metal pomp and preening attitude.
Sammy Serious & The Zeros know how to make entertaining music with real attitude, but they keep themselves from being lumped into the HM genre, by virtue of the fact that they have punk and pop sensibilities which makes them far more accessable, even if they do have some sledgehammer riffs to lay upon you. Great stuff!
