Lonesome Time is a five track release from New York based Nick Martin. His sound is an easy going or laid back brand of folk or perhaps , Americana, as that more accurately describes the feel that Nick has infused into these songs. His voice is classic American troubadour, really lived-in, gritty, earthy, all of those really, with lots of warm overtones, a voice that makes you feel you'd believe everything he said was true, so if Nick told you that black was in fact white, it'd spoil the rest of your day, as you'd be completely at odds with yourself, trying to figure that one out!
The title track is acoustic led and easy of pace, with some cool drum patterns to make it shuffle along nicely and Nick's voice holding your attention. Although Nick's voice can make you think you can draw comparisons with other singers, you'd be hard pushed to pin it down and in reality, it isn't important, just sit back and let him tell his story. 'Better Day' moves along at a similar pace, but adds some tasty electric guitar which burns brightly behind the rich vocals. 'Time To Cry' is uptempo and although there are classic arrangement traits that have graced many a simiilar singer songwriter style song, this and indeed each of Nick's songs seem to depart form the norm somewhat by using elements of, dare I say, funk, be it the drums or the bass, there is this rythmic pumping vibe that keeps the song fresh sounding and somewhat more lively. 'Circle' dips it's toes into classic country territory, whilst 'Whiskey Whiskey' rounds this release off with a richly voiced, slow tempo ode to the mistress in a bottle.
Nick makes fine music, which is recorded with clarity and he also pays particular attention to the arrangement of each song, to make it stand out more, which separates him out from the pack. Lonesome Time is well worth checking out and Nick deserves a lot of success with this and future releases.
