'Journey to the Center of the Heart' is the latest release from Jeremy Morris and we find him mixing melodic catchy pop tunes with some groovy psychedelic sounds. As with all the music this prolific artist generates, the emphasis is on grabbing the ear with strong melodies, throwing in some tasteful Rickenbacker jangle when neccesary and the odd burst of 'tear up' lead guitar for good measure. Jeremy happily mixes up the musical genres on here, but it's all music in the end, so why not?
The album opens with 'Home' which has a pumping rythmn, backwards guitar and atmospheric Mellotron assistance to help it along. Prime power pop is on display with 'Where There's a Will There's a Way'and the song works it's way up into big uplifting choruses and also puts Jeremy's lead guitar prowess on display in the breaks. Title track 'Journey to the Centre of the Heart' is mid paced, slightly laid back and with some naggingly good hooks throughout. 'Church of Byrds' forgoes simple arrangement for a lavishly constructed ethereal vocal and string laden background to create a hymnal feel. 'The Time is Now' is a gloriously simple and catchy pop song that generates a feeling of well being, whilst 'Sailing Homeward' is a thought provoking piano led slow ballad that is both gentle and very atmospheric. The final track, 'Sleep Good' is a gentle lullaby that neatly rounds off the proceedings.
Jeremy is always recording new music and has done for a long time now, but he manages to always work to a very high standard and knows how best to work the chosen musical genres on every album he releases. Journey to the Centre of the Heart' is once again a solidly musical and melodic release and a worthy addition to anyone's collection.
