This double CD ..."We Used To Cut The Green Grass.../... The War Is Over..." is the first and third part of a triology story..."Green Days On A Planet Blue." (Part two was the cd "The Inner Garden" from 2000, LEICO 8548). You can find the whole story "Green Days On A Planet Blue" (1985-2009) and all the lyrics on the Green Wave homepage at: www.green-wave.de
(1985) Part one of the story, the cd "We Used To Cut The Green Grass" deals with happenings 24 years ago; an environment catastrophe in Great Britain caused by the people in grey leads to an exodus which ends for a small group of the multicoloured people down south at the Spanish Costa Verde.
Part two of the story had been the cd "The Inner Garden", a flashback diary found at a Costa Verde beach in 1999, in which the writer Dave, one of the protagonists of the triology, describes the inner and outer psychic backgrounds, the hopes and fears and doubts, that made him to the individual, that stranded somewhere at the banks of time.
(2009) Part three of the story, the cd "The War Is Over" is still located in Spain in the mountain area of Picos de Europa. The catastrophe 24 years ago is now a faraway part of history; the world has found it's way "back to normal" The protagonists have grown older or have died away, like Sarah; but although their rage and anger seem to have faded a bit into the endlessness of time and they quietly seem to submit to the fact that the people in grey are reconquering the world once more, they do not lose their belief in mother earth; and on sunny afternoons they still keep dreaming of a change..
"Maybe on the arrows of why and when they will come back again.."
Review
"We Used To Cut The Green Grass../..The War Is Over", is a two disc set of a triology written about the aftermath of an atomic devastation. Although the music and each individual song itself is sensational, to fully appreciate the synthesis of this album the listener needs to hear it all from start to finish. Therefore, I am not going to attempt to break down the individual songs given the lengthy 2 disc concept! But I am pleased to say: "We Used To Cut The Green Grass../..The War Is Over" is a brilliant and meticulous melodramtic work of the musical and visual arts, performed with great passion and theatrical intensity in an upbeat positive and inspirational requisition of encouraging and restoring the hope and faith amongst the people in an astounding musical diversity, incorporating glorified broadway style pop, punk, progressive, blues rock, and psychedelia in some unique and cutting styles that are fabulous! The instrumentation and improvisations are over the top! This album is full of fierce guitar riffs, intensified harmonics, beautiful organ and inclusive sound effects and histronics. The Green Wave is really winging it!
I highly recommend this album to all who have an appreciation for music that encompasses it all.. in a unique concept!
