The Dolly Rocker Movement fly the flag for garage/psychedelia in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and 'Purple Journey Into The Mod Machine' is their second album of popsike gems. The music contained within is a latterday journey through the wonderful world of simple catchy tunes with the genuine bona fide trappings that all good psychedelic songs should feature. Whilst not strictly pinning their sound on one particular strand of the genre, the music tips it's hat to Barrett era Pink Floyd (let's face it boys and girls, the best version of the band), west coast types like Strawberry Alarm Clock and Love, a smattering of psych period Donovan and a number of others, they do manage to have a sound and feel of their own. 'Enter The Mod Machine' sets the scene for the trip you're about to take with treated Farfisa sounds to make your head spin in preparation for the journey ahead. 'For Those Teary Eyes' follows along behind with it's bright and shiny melodies and signature guitar and organ riff. 'Gypsy Dancer' comes in with a sitar like intro and then gets going with a sound like a geniunely lost and re-discovered psych gem. 'My Friend' floats by on a simple pulsating two note organ riff and gently carries the listener along in it's trance-like wake. 'I Can See Through Orange' is a gentle acoustic number with flutes adding an airy quality to the proceedings. 'Cross Wired' returns to the treated Farfisa rumblings of 'Enter The Mod Machine' as a way of returning you safely to the real world. 'Purple Journey Into The Mod Machine' displays the band's geuine love of classic '67 style pyschedelia and it has been carefully put together so it can stand alongside all the great psych albums of that period without losing face to any of them.
