"Crimson And Clover And Other Hits", is a compilation of originally recorded 60's hits by Tommy James and The Shondells.
"Crimson and Clover", written by James and Peter Lucia Jr. (the Shondells drummer), was originally released in November of 1968, and is the song that marked the groups arrival in their experimentations with psychedelic style music. "Crimson and Clover" is a gorgeous melodramatic song with long electric guitar riffs and trippy wobbly repeated runs of tremolo vocals and instrumental techniques, combined with a performance that spontaneously delivers a sedative and intoxicating loving feel of emotions. The song was one of the greatest hits of the 60's reaching #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts and # 1 in Canada in 1969. It was also the biggest hit for Tommy James and the Shondells.
"It's Only Love", Gettin' Together", Get Out Now", and "Somebody Cares" are all fun and witty upbeat pop-rock style songs, with fuzz guitar and thunderous drum riffs, that are brilliant. "Sweet Cherry Wine" is a beautiful song that embraces the counterculture in protest of the war and fighting, while encouraging the people to love one another and put their trust in the Lord, that produces a psychedelia shadowed pop-rock-soulful melody that is joyful, as well as serious and heart warming. "Mony Mony", is the famous party-dance song named after the Mutual of NY Insurance sign, that is still a popular cover song throughout the world. "Come To Me" and "She" are charming easy listening heart felt melodramatic & soulful pop gems, that will put you in a loving mood. "Mirage" was written over the chords of "I Think We're Alone Now" (originally a 1967 hit for Tommy James and the Shondells), and played backwards, producing a shimmering upbeat pop tune.
If you are looking for some originally recorded hits of the 60's with some brilliant melodic songs with a touch of psychedelia, this album is a beautiful collection of hits that is sure to warm your heart!
