M100 is a duo consisting of Andy Goodman and Kevin Wallbank, it evolved out of a band called The Resisters; at first they ran in parallel, but as The Resisters ran out of steam, M100 became the main focus of attention. M100 originally started out to utilize songs that were written for The Resisters but were 'off the pace', y'know, a bit quieter and was intended as just a songwriting outlet to be placed with music publishers.
As time passed it became apparent that the songs had a unique identity and that they should be recorded for an album release, so that has been what has been happening for the past year or so. The boys play all the instruments themselves with the exception of drums and that task is undertaken by the more than capable John Baker, who fits right in with the band's ideas about how thing should sound.
The boys hail from London's East End and have been involved in music for all their teenage and adult lives. The pair met in 2001 when their respective bands started rehearsing at the same studio. After those bands folded, (as they do), they teamed up to form The Resisters, which was initially a covers band, because they were tired of running bands with any musical apsirations and having to keep replacing departing band members. After a short while, the urge to write songs came to the fore again and it was Kev and Andy who started collaborating on what was intended to be a Resisters album, but due to line-up problems within the band, progress was painfully slow and after completing eight original songs, the band was laid to rest.
So the songwriting continued under the M100 banner and although the volume level has been turned down significantly so they can hear themselves think and keyboards have been allowed to play a major part, the musical style, quirks, twists and turns that were present before are still there. M100 has it's own sound and style based around the use of Hammond organs (there were three used in the recordings) and the band name is taken from the main organ used throughout the whole album. The songs cover a lot of ground musically speaking to keep it varied as the guys wanted to present something to the public that was of sufficient quality and depth to be listenable from start to finish. They think they've achieved it, but only the listener can actually confirm this. The album's title is '500 Days' and will be available very soon, in the meantime they have provided a taster to whet collective appetites.
